IYC-Valley View Home Page
As time goes by... the memories of what was the Illinois Youth Center - Valley View, which was one of several facilities within the Illinois Department of Corrections - Juvenile Division, fade.
However, many of us are still very much alive and kicking!! As this page is being written (May 2011), the State Legisalture is moving ahead with resolve to tackle the snarled mess which is our retirement. Several retirees from the IDOC - Juvenile Division, and other agencies have become active with AFSCME in Kane County in the fight to get it right.
So it is now time to make a decision. I had been unable to keep the Valley View Alumni page up to date with any regularity, but had made some updates to the Message Board regarding anniversaries of our closing (7/31/2002), Holiday Gatherings and general information including mention of those who have died. Recently I became active in the AFSCME Retiree Chapter in Kane County. So it has occurred to me that I could use this site as a link to information about the current situation that effects us all.
I am exploring the development of two sites within this domain (www.iyc-valleyview.com):
IYC-Valley View Alumni which will have some details about the past and present of what was the IYC-VV
Kane County Retirees which will be developed as our newly formed chapter tries to fight the fight to make things right. I will also se up a message board/forum within this site, or externally via a ProBoard link as we had done previously from the Valley View Alumni Page for years. It may be that I will be able to create and maintain a message board from within this site. We will see. As it gets underway, I will invite you to submit any comments, questions or other remarks as this gets moving along!
